How we plan to Make Sale Moor Sparkle.....every year!!
Trafford Council, like many local authorities, stopped paying for Christmas Lights around three years ago and, since then, it has been left to local community and/or traders’ groups to fundraise themselves to light up towns and villages at Christmas.
We Are Sale Moor will fundraise annually to buy something new each year, eventually building up to a full complement of Christmas lights over the next five years:
In 2016 part of the funds raised were used to buy green floodlights for the trees next to the IMO car wash, the installation of some electricity points
This year, the plan is to buy two cross-street displays to hang above Northenden Road
For the next three years, something new will be bought each year, such as more uplighters for the trees on Marsland Road, tree lights for mini-Christmas trees above the Village shops, or lamp-post lights
We Are Sale Moor will aim to raise at least £2,000 each year towards the additional lights.
There is then an ongoing cost each year for storage and installation by Trafford Council’s preferred supplier for Christmas Lights.

Festive Fundraiser for Sale Moor
Local community group, We Are Sale Moor, has launched a festive fundraiser to make the Village sparkle - every Christmas.
A raffle with some spectacular prizes has been launched, as part of a plan to gradually build up a full complement of Christmas lights for the Village over the next five years.
Last year the group raised nearly £4,500 through an online crowdfunding campaign to hire lights for the Village, in line with advice from Trafford Council.
However, the group felt that hiring lights each year wasn’t viable and, instead, has decided to buy them.
Anna Bond, Chair of We Are Sale Moor, said: “The community overwhelmed us with their fantastic response to our crowdfunding last year and we felt we couldn’t keep asking them to help us raise that much money every year - simply to hire lights!
“A full complement of lights for the Village could cost as much as £8,000 – plus the additional expense of storage and installation each year – so our plan is to gradually build up to a full set by buying something new each year.
“It feels like a more prudent use of the community’s generosity, so I hope they’ll be as enthusiastic in their support of our raffle this year, as they were for the crowdfunding last year.
“There are some amazing prizes that are really worth winning and we send huge thanks to the businesses that have donated them to us.”
Prizes for the raffle include tickets to the marvellous new Dino Falls Golf experience, a C9 weight management treatment from Forever Aloe, contributions from Traders in the Village towards a cash prize, booze from Bargain Booze and a Christmas wreath from Fleur de vie – and more than 15 other prizes!
Tickets cost only £1 – or £5 for a book - and are available at several shops in Sale Moor village including Taylors, Hesketh's, Charleys corner and Orchard Greenery and online here.
It is hoped that the festive fundraiser will raise at least £2,000 to buy two cross-street displays this year to hang above Northenden Road.
The raffle will be drawn at We Are Sale Moor’s pop-up cinema at Sale Moor Community Centre on Saturday 9th December, the winners will be contacted afterwards and will be put up online .
