Cushman & Wakefield presented the preferred option for the Warrener Street Car Park last night at Lime Tree Primary Academy.
We Are Sale Moor are pleased to report that the option voted for by the community was based on our (We Are Sale Moor CIC) request to have it mixed use: convenience store (to be independent or community owned) along with housing. So this proposal includes a 5000sqft convenience store, housing, potentially a GP surgery and a 50 space car park (still owned by the Council). This option retains a car park, albeit a smaller one, the retailer fits with the WASM vision to keep it independent AND, if we can get a GP surgery, it will bring some extra footfall to the Village (and therefore business for the Traders) without it being over-the-top like a large supermarket would be. We have also been informed that Lidl & Aldi are NOT interested as the proposed store is too small, nor is it likely to be Tesco/Sainsbury's as they are no longer opening these kind of stores. Therefore the store will most likely be something like a co-op local. The option and feasibility of a GP surgery is being investigated, with a GP already having stated an interest. Cushman & Wakefield are assessing the requirements (including required parking) and impact on the village. We're really pleased with the way Cushman & Wakefield consulted with We Are Sale Moor and delighted that we've had a chance to influence the proposal. We've worked hard and pushed for involvement throughout the process. The public have had their say and we're delighted with the outcome. We feel this is the best possible solution for the site (on the basis that it can't stay as it is).
